Every day is an education in life. Here at the Cupcake Cafe, we have acquired a new friend and customer that suffers from Celiacs Disease. What is Celiacs you may ask, We did. Celiacs is a Disease or intolerance that limits your diet to items that do not contains Gluten( the Definition can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluten . So, we attempted to create some items that are Gluten free and let me tell you it is quite a challenge. However, we did find a recipe for Gingerbread cookies that turned out to be a good recipe Celiac.com . Then we found a recipe for a cake that turned into a science project gone bad. So in short, Celiac Cooking is a challenge and there is a lot of information on the internet concerning celiacs Diseases as well as recipes to battle it. But not all internet content is created equal so you have to pick and choose and sometimes have a bad science experiment but you can find your way to a Gluten free way of life and we would like to thank our new found friend for educating us a little on some of the challenges people face that we never think about in our day to day lives.

Gather the Kids in the Kitchen and Create some Memories, Here is a free little Chocolate project you can do with your Kids some afternoon provided to you from The Cup Cake Cafe and Sweet Boutique.

It is necessary that parents spend time with their children. Several bonding activities can be thought of to make the experience as memorable as possible. Among others, cooking and baking are good activities to engage in because they tap on all senses of your kid especially if it involves recipes which they can enjoy afterwards. Now, who said kids don’t love chocolate recipes, especially if they are chocolate-related recipes?

Chocolates, aside from the health benefits it can bring such as regulating blood pressure and cholesterol, are nothing but an delectable concoction enjoyed most especially by children. Aside from these physiological benefits, it can also do wonders in your emotional relationship and bond with your kids.

Chocolate Lollipops is a child-friendly chocolate recipe that can give your kids a happy and enjoyable learning experience with you. You will need very simple ingredients and equipment to make these adorable lollipops. The creative ideas of your kids will be needed in designing and decorating the lollipops. While preparing this, it will be nice to tell tales about chocolate to your children—where it originated, how is chocolate done, what it can do to you and other facts that can make your kids love chocolate more.

Ingredients:
1. Package of Chocolate Wafers
2. Butter
3. Food color for fun painting
4. Chocolate candies, crispies or sprinkles for decorations

Equipment and Materials:
1. Lollipop mold
2. candy sticks to be used as lollipop handles
3. Paint brushes for the food coloring
4. Ribbons to be tied in the lollipop handle
5. Cabbage where the kids can stick their lollipops

All the cooking that you need to do is melt the chocolate block and the butter in a heated pan. Once smooth and free of lumps, you may now pour the melted chocolate in the lollipop molds. It would be nice to use children-friendly mold designs such as animal faces, letters or numbers. Have your kids stick the straw at the lower part of the chocolate. Set aside and let it solidify. If already in a semi-solid state, you may ask the children to put candies, sprinkles or crispies for added design. You may put it in the refrigerator afterwards for faster solidification. For sure, those little angels will be too excited to wait for the chocolate to harden.

Once the chocolate has hardened, carefully pull each one off the molds. Now the children will have their part. Allow them to paint the chocolate lollipops with food color. Make them design the straws with ribbons. Ask them to give names to their lollipops and before they eat up all those lollipops, invite your children to wash the dishes and wipe the tables used as well. Yes, they need to take part of this process so that they see the entire process of cooking. Ask them nicely and make them see the beauty of the task. This will teach them to be responsible.

Cooking or baking chocolate-related recipes is not only fun for your kids. It is a hands-on training and exposure for them that can teach them a wide array of values while providing the most fun experience for them. It is a great bonding idea with their friends as well so next time you make another batch lollipops or other chocolate recipes such as cupcakes, muffins, chocolate drink or chocolate chip cookies, make room for more kiddies who would want to join your baking session.

Watkins recently released this news so I thought I would share it with you.

With 40 products certified, including the new line extensions of facial and body care, J.R.
Watkins Natural Apothecary is the second most certified brand.
WINONA, Minn., (Nov. 03, 2009) — J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary has received Natural
Products Association certification for its newest line extensions; Daily Cleansing Cream, Divine
Day Cream, Nourishing Night Cream, Medicated Lip Balm, Peppermint Foot Scrub, Aloe and
Green Tea Shampoo and Body Wash. With the addition of these products, the company now
has the second most products certified out of fourteen companies that currently carry the seal.
This highly regarded seal represents natural products that are formulated with at least 95%
natural ingredients made from renewable and sustainable resources.
The average woman slathers over 125 chemicals onto her scalp, body, face and lips each day.
Wouldn’t be such a big deal if they were all cleared by health officials, but only 11% of the
10,500 chemical ingredients that go into making personal care products are actually tested for
safety.*
Meeting the NPA Standard
Products must follow strict guidelines set out by the Natural Products
Association to carry the seal, including:
· At least 95 percent truly natural ingredients or ingredients that are
derived from natural sources.
· No ingredients with any potential suspected human health risks.
· No processes that significantly or adversely alter the purity/effect of the natural
ingredients.
· Ingredients that come from a purposeful, renewable/plentiful source found in nature
(flora, fauna, mineral).
· Processes that are minimal and don’t use synthetic/harsh chemicals or otherwise
dilute purity.
· Non-natural ingredients only when viable natural alternative ingredients are
unavailable and only when there are absolutely no suspected potential human health
risks.

Scone, A scone is a bread with a Scottish origin, The Scone is very popular in the United Kingdom, I indulged in my first scone about a week ago and found it to be a wonderful tasting, small rich biscut like pastry, I highly recomend you run out to your nearest
Sweet shop and Grab one tody or if you are a Baker

Here is a recipe for scone found at Joy of Baking http://www.joyofbaking.com/scones.html

Scone Recipe:

2 cups (280 grams) all-purpose flour

1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated white sugar

2 teaspoons (10 grams) baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup (76 grams) cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1 large egg, lightly beaten

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup (120 ml) whipping cream or milk

Glaze:

Cream

Read more: http://www.joyofbaking.com/scones.html#ixzz0VzmpzE6X

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and place the rack in the middle of the oven. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut the butter into small pieces and blend into the flour mixture with a pastry blender or two knives. The mixture should look like coarse crumbs. In a small measuring cup combine the whipping cream, beaten egg and vanilla. Add this mixture to the flour mixture. Stir just until combined. Do not over mix.

Knead dough gently on a lightly floured surface. Roll or pat the dough into a circle that is about 7 inches (18 cm) round. Then, using a 2 1/2 inch (6.5 cm) round cookie cutter, cut the dough into rounds. Place the rounds on the prepared cookie sheet, spacing a few inches apart. Brush the tops of the scones with a little cream. This helps to brown the tops of the scones during baking.

Bake for about 15 - 18 minutes or until nicely browned and a toothpick inserted into the center of a scone comes out clean. Remove from oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool. Serve with Devon cream or softly whipped cream and your favorite jam.

These scones freeze very well.

Makes about 10 - 2 1/2 inch (6.5 cm) round scones
